note

For example, a recipe for 4 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches has 8 slices of bread (400 grams), 4 Tbs. of peanut butter (400 grams), and 4 Tbs. of jam (200 grams). It weighs 1000 grams. Weights in these examples are not the actual weights for these food items, they are used to simplify the example. Change the Number of servings field from 4 to 2. The recipe now has 4 slices of bread, 2 Tbs. of peanut butter, and 2 Tbs. of jelly, or 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Each serving remains 1 sandwich. The portion remains the same. Scale to a higher number to make more sandwiches. Change the Weight field from 1000 grams to 500 grams. The recipe changes to 4 slices of bread (200 grams), 2 Tbs. of peanut butter (200 grams) and 2 Tbs. of jelly (100 grams), or 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Each serving remains 1 sandwich. The portion remains the same. Scale to a higher weight to make more sandwiches.
