Calculating vitamin A conversions

To automatically calculate Vitamin A conversions, click . The Calculate Vitamin A dialog box appears. Follow these steps to complete the dialog box:

The Vitamin A button appears on the Nutrients Tab for basic foods, not recipes.

  1. Fill in the Vitamin A Source field by selecting one of the following options:
    • Animal
    • Plant
    • Combination
  2. Click a Calculate option: RE (retinol equivalent) or IU (international unit).

If RE is selected, type an IU value in the Vitamin A (IU) field. If IU is selected, type an RE value in the Vitamin A (RE) field.

  1. If the food contains Vitamin A, the values from the Nutrients tab appear in the Vitamin A (IU) and Vitamin A (RE) fields in the Calculate Vitamin A dialog box. Modify values in the fields as appropriate.

The order of the Vitamin A (IU) and Vitamin A (RE) fields depends on the selection in the Calculate option. The value being calculated appears on the bottom.

  1. Click . The calculated value changes.
  2. Click . The dialog box closes and values appear in the Vitamin A (IU) and Vitamin A (RE) fields in the Nutrients.
