Completing the Pyramid Categories tab
The Pyramid Categories tab contains a list of specific pyramid categories from which to choose when you add, create, or customize foods. The Pyramid provides a visual framework for consumers to see the recommended number of servings of food from recognizable food groups in serving sizes expressed in household measures.
If you open a Axxya Systems food, the fields will automatically be filled with the appropriate information.
You must select a food classification on the General tab to establish the default pyramid categories for the food. A food classification is required to use the 
and 
buttons.
To use the Pyramid Categories tab after opening or adding a food, follow these steps:
- Determine the appropriate pyramid categories. Use one of the following methods for assigning pyramid categories:
- Click the check boxes next to the appropriate pyramid categories. A check mark appears in the box next to each selection. If the food in the selected category is high in fat or sugar, click High Fat or High Sugar for that food.
- Click . Axxya Systems pyramid categories appear and High Fat or High Sugar is selected based on the food classification chosen for this food.
Default clears all entries and replaces them with Axxya Systems entries.
- Click additional pyramid exchange categories or clear categories as necessary. A check mark appears in the box next to each selected category.
Single source foods generally have only one pyramid category assigned plus one fat or sugar. Combination foods may have a maximum of four pyramid categories selected, one being fat or sugar. (If there are four categories , the fourth must be fat or sugar.)
- Assign pyramid category values in one of the following two ways:
- Type the pyramid values manually in the Value field.
- Click . The calculated pyramid values appear in the Value field for the selected pyramid categories.
If more information is needed to perform the calculation, a dialog box appears with a message indicating what missing information is required.
- Modify pyramid category values by typing the desired value in the appropriate Value field.
- To reorder the items and recalculate the exchanges, follow these steps:
a. Click

to move the item higher or lower on the list.
b. Click .
The order in which the groups are listed determines how the pyramid categories are calculated for combination foods.
- Save changes. If the food is a Axxya Systems food, you will be prompted to make a custom copy of the food with your changes.
