Using the diet editor
The diet editor is step 4 of the client wizard. It shows the client's diets as a tree, with each diet record or food questionnaire at the top level and its contents nested beneath.
Nothing is saved until you click Continue at the bottom of the screen, so finish your edits before leaving the step.
Add a diet record
- Click New, then Diet Record. A record is added to the tree.
- Click the record's name to rename it inline.
A diet record with one day is a 24 hour recall. Add three days for a three day record. The reports average across whatever days the record contains.
Add a day
- Select the diet record using the chevron beside it.
- Click Add Day. A day is added to the record.
- Click the day's name to rename it inline.
The toolbar buttons stay disabled until you select a node in the tree. Add Day needs a record selected, Add Meal needs a day, and Add Food needs a meal.
Add a meal
- Select a day in the tree.
- Click Add Meal.
- Choose a Data Source, Axxya Systems or My Data.
- Select one or more meals from the Meal list, for example Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Select All ticks every meal in the list at once, and turns into Clear so you can untick them again.
- Click Save.
The day gets exactly the meals you ticked. Changing the Data Source only reloads the list you are choosing from; it does not add anything on its own.
The Axxya Systems list holds the six standard meals: Breakfast, Morning Snack, Lunch, Afternoon Snack, Dinner, and Evening Snack. Add your own under Tools > Meals to see them under My Data.
Add a food
- Select a meal in the tree.
- Click Add Food. The food search dialog opens.
- Search for the ingredient or recipe and add it.
- Enter the Serving Amount and choose a Serving Amount Unit. You can also set a Preparation Method and a Meal Component, and adjust the Text that appears in the tree.
- Click OK, then close the search dialog.
Repeat a food across days
On the food form, select Add Every and enter a number of days. The food is copied into the matching meal on every following day at that interval, which saves rebuilding a repeating pattern by hand. This option is only offered when you first add a food, not when you edit one.
Rearrange the record
Every row in the tree has Cut, Copy, and Delete icons, and a Paste icon where pasting is allowed. Copy an item at one level and paste it at the matching level: a day onto a record, a meal onto a day, a food onto a meal.
Copying a day onto the record is the fastest way to build a three day record from a single day you have already entered.
You can also drag diet records up and down to reorder them.
Cut deletes the node immediately and holds it on the clipboard. If you never paste it, it is gone. Use Copy if you want to keep the original.
Edit properties
Select a diet record and click Properties to set its Name, Start Date, End Date, and Note. For a food, Properties reopens the serving form so you can change the amount, unit, preparation method, or meal component.
Analyze the diet
- Select the diet record in the tree. Analysis is only available from the record itself, not from a day or a meal.
- Click Analysis. The Analysis dialog opens.
- Choose where the goal comes from: Axxya Systems, My Data, or Client to use the client's own nutrient goal.
- Review the Nutrients tab, which lists each nutrient with its value, the goal, and the percent of goal. The Exchanges tab shows the same intake as exchange counts.
- To narrow the analysis, select Day Range, then choose a From Day, a To Day, and a Meal. This is how you look at a single day inside a multi-day record, or at every breakfast across the record.
- Use Select Nutrients to choose which nutrients appear.
Close the dialog and click Continue to save the diet.
