Specifying general information for food labels

Use the General tab to modify items such as the Household measure, Metric equivalent, and Serving size. These fields change depending on the type of label chosen.

note

Access to this screen is only available if you have purchased the Food Labeling option.

  • The Household measure is a common household measure appropriate to the food. By default, the typical amount and portion of the food or recipe is obtained from the information stored in the knowledge base.
  • The value in the Metric equivalent is either a gram weight or a milliliter amount for the food. If a volume measure is not defined for the food, then only the gram weight can be entered. Change these values using the Select Reference Amount dialog box or by manually entering a value and choosing g (gram) or mL (milliliter), if available.
note

If you enter an invalid value, a question mark appears for the serving size on the label, both on screen and in print.

  • The Serving size field contains the serving size and weight that appears on the Food Label. It is a combination of the Household measure and the Metric equivalent. If either the Household measure or the Metric equivalent is modified, the Serving size field will be modified. The Serving size field can be modified independently.
    • For Dual Declaration labels, only the serving size for the first food is available.
    • For Aggregate labels, two serving sizes are available. One serving size is not dependent on a food and prints on the left side of the label. The other serving size prints under each food column since each food in the package has separate serving sizes.

Click to access the standard references. Use the Select Reference Amount dialog box to see a list of reference amounts, and to select a standard reference amount for the food. The nutrients will scale on the nutrients tab according to the reference amount chosen.
