Using the drag-and-drop operation
The drag-and-drop operation allows you to drag foods or recipes from lists and drop them in various locations, depending on the context. For example, you can copy items from the Add Food dialog box to different days in a menu or diet. You can also move or copy foods from one day to another in a diet or menu.
The terms drag and drop are defined as follows:
- Drag , to select an item in a list, press the mouse button, and move the item across the screen, resulting in copying or moving the item.
- Drop , to release the mouse button after dragging an item, resulting in moving the item or a copy of the item to a new location.
Follow these guidelines when using the drag-and-drop operation:
- Drag to move an item on a list to a location in the same context. If a shadowed icon for the item appears, the item is being moved. To copy the item instead, press the Ctrl or Shift key and drag, depending on the situation.
- Drag to copy an item on a list to a location outside the context. If a shadowed icon for the item with a plus sign appears, the item is being copied. To move the item instead, press the Ctrl or Shift key and drag, depending on the situation. If you rename a food and copy it to or from a recipe, the copied food name reverts to the original food name as defined in the database.
- Press the Right Mouse button to drag an item. When the item is dropped, a shortcut menu appears with choices, such as Copy and Move, that change depending on the operation.
The cursor changes to this symbol to indicate that it is not possible to drop an item: When a shadowed icon for the item appears with a plus sign, it is possible to drop the item.
Multiple selections can be made for items appearing in lists. Use any of the following methods to make multiple selections:
- Press Ctrl and click to select multiple items in a list. Click an item a second time to clear it from a multiple selection.
- Press Ctrl and an Arrow key followed by the Space bar to select multiple items in a list.
- Select an item on a list, press Shift, and select another item higher or lower on the list to select a range of items.
- Click in the white space in a list and drag to create a selection rectangle.
Drag navigation allows you to drag items from one editor to another and drop a copy in place, where appropriate. For instance, copy a food or recipe from an Aggregate or Dual Declaration food label to a diet, menu, or recipe.
- The day and meal must be available in diets and menus.
- The food or recipe must be copied to the ingredient list in a recipe.
Use the following steps to perform drag navigation:
- Open the food or recipe in the multiple food label.
- Click the food or recipe. Be sure to click the icon and the text. Otherwise, only the text is copied.
- Drag the cursor to the desired Component (Database or Client). The cursor changes to a circle with a line through it until the mouse is over a location where the item can be dropped.
- Drag the cursor to the desired Editor (Foods, Recipe Book, Menu Templates, Client, or Client Groups).
- Drag the cursor to the desired tab.
- Drag the cursor to the appropriate location.
- Drop the item.
