Nutrients

Recipes, ingredients, and labels all return a nutrients list. Recipes and ingredients share one format and one published list of nutrients. Labels return the values saved on the label.

Recipes and ingredients

Each nutrient has five fields:

{ "id": 1, "name": "Kilocalories", "abbreviation": "Kcal", "unit": "kilocalorie(s)", "value": 210.556 }
  • id. The nutrient ID. It is stable, so use it to match nutrients in your own system.
  • name. The nutrient name.
  • abbreviation. The short name.
  • unit. The unit of the value.
  • value. The amount, rounded to three decimal places.

Values are per serving

Recipe and ingredient values are for one serving. The response says so with "nutrient_basis": "per_serving".

The serving block of the same response describes that serving. The Weight nutrient (ID 121) is the weight in grams that the values are for.

To work out values for 100 grams, divide each value by the value of the Weight nutrient and multiply by 100.

Only nutrients with a value are returned

A nutrient with no value is left out of the list. A missing nutrient means no value is recorded, which is different from a value of 0.

The list is in the same order Nutritionist Pro displays nutrients.

Labels

A label returns the nutrient values saved on the label, for the serving printed on the label.

{ "id": 4, "name": "Fat", "unit": "gram(s)", "value": 6.84, "rounded_value": 7.0 }
  • id. The nutrient ID.
  • name and unit. As saved on the label.
  • value. The value before rounding.
  • rounded_value. The rounded value saved on the label.

Label nutrients differ from recipe and ingredient nutrients in three ways:

  • They are not limited to the published list above. A label returns every nutrient saved on it.
  • They carry a rounded_value, and have no abbreviation.
  • They are a copy taken when the label was saved. If the recipe was changed afterward, the label keeps its saved values until it is refreshed in Nutritionist Pro.

Use label values when you need to show what the label shows. Use recipe values when you need the current analysis of the recipe.
